Last night, I witnessed a rare and wonderful occurrence. Just a few scant miles from the Oakland border, there were people cheering because a Republican had said something positive about the Iraq war and the troops fighting it.

Local businessman Dean Andal, a Republican who served in the State Assembly and on the California Board of Equalization, has announced that he will challenge first-term Democratic Congressman Jerry McNerney in California’s sprawling 11th Congressional District. The district reaches from Stockton in the east to Danville in the west, and includes portions of San Joaquin, Contra Costa, Santa Clara and Alameda Counties.

“This election is about restoring trust in Congress and holding it accountable for its treatment of American taxpayers,” said Andal, noting that one of McNerney’s first acts after being elected to Congress was “to vote in support of a $400 billion tax increase—the largest federal tax hike in history.”

When the California Republican Party gathers for its semi-annual convention in Indian Wells this weekend, it will consider officially backing a controversial initiative to allocate the state's Electoral College votes by congressional district, the party chairman said.

SACRAMENTO — After another car-crash tragedy on a notoriously dangerous East Bay road, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Monday signed a measure doubling fines in the zone and indicated there will be enough officers to enforce it.

OAKLAND — Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger was greeted with open arms Sunday at Allen Temple Baptist Church, one of the city's largest black churches, just days after a furor erupted over his characterization of a Latina legislator as hotblooded because of her black and Latino roots.

The Alameda County Republican Party just wrapped up its booth at the County Fair. After seventeen days and close to 1000 volunteer hours put in, Republicans are getting the word out on Governor Schwarzenegger's re-election. Volunteers at the booth reported a very positive response from visitors. Many also filled out a survey the County Party conducted. It concluded that illegal immigration is a priority issue to many local residents. ...(continued)...

The California Republican Party-Victory '06 has opened up a new satellite campaign office in the Tri-Valley area. It will serve as the primary Get out the Vote (GOTV) arm for the Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's re-election campaign and Republican down ticket candidates.
