Tri Valley Republican Women Federated cordially invite all women and men for a fantastic Buffet Dinner on March 14, 2019 to hear a great speaker, Betty Ann Boeving Hagenau, Founder, Bay Area Anti-Trafficking Coalition.
Betty Ann is the founder of the Bay Area Anti-Trafficking Coalition. She has been leading, teaching, and speaking about community-based strategies to fight human trafficking since 2002. In 2006, Betty Ann climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro to raise $45K to fight child trafficking. She is in her 20th season as “the voice” of Stanford women's basketball, having just hit the milestone of 300 games announced last season. Betty Ann holds a B.A. from the University of Oregon and her M.A. in International Policy Studies from Stanford, specializing in International Conflict Resolution. Betty Ann has led educational tours around the world to all seven continents and has visited over 95 countries. BAATC efforts equip and engage individuals, civic groups, and non-profits with best practices to sustain in the fight against human trafficking in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. We work to build collaboration between local non-profits to establish a stronger continuum of care among victim service providers, and educate activists about how to sustain in their continuum of engagement to intervene on behalf of those who are enslaved.
The full scope of human trafficking in the U.S. includes sex slavery, forced labor, domestic servitude, as well as consumer choices that impact exploitative child labor practices overseas. Such individual and collective harms can be paralyzing to a concerned person or community group if not understood or approached appropriately. Informed by almost 10-years of collaborating with various Bay Area-based anti-human trafficking non-profits, the BAATC offers opportunities to raise community awareness while also providing trusted recommendations on actionable steps for anyone to stand with us in our goal: TO ACHIEVE A SLAVE-FREE BAY AREA.
The BAATC serves the INDIVIDUAL. We are committed to educating individuals, student groups, faith communities and social clubs to offer personal consulting on devising a doable action plan for engagement over the coming days, weeks and months. The BAATC serves the COMMUNITY. We host a bi-annual Freedom Summit to allow for a place and time for all non-profits and interested individuals to be able to come together to learn, grow and collaborate. To see what happened at Freedom Summit 2015 on May 9th in Levi's Stadium, go to: www.freedom-summit.org. The BAATC serves the anti-trafficking ORGANIZATIONS. We are aware of over 50 non-profits in the Bay Area working to fight human trafficking. Most of these rarely speak to one another. With our coalition model, we stress the importance of tangible collaboration, and the belief that we are better together. The BAATC hosts regular gatherings to build a unified Bay Area response among organizations working to end trafficking here in our region. www.baatc.org facebook.com/baatc.org
